Three to Be understands that in order to reach their full potential and future success, children with neurological disorders need the strongest possible support system and advocates in their corner. This begins with their parents and families.
Through PAL Assist, Three to Be has three ongoing, annual funding initiatives that allow parents to apply for family support. They include our Fee Subsidy, Give Me A Break and Pathway Kits. Each support is designed to respond directly to the here and now needs of our families, as well as enhance the degree to which they are nurtured and supported within our community.
Funding open until Wednesday, May 24 at 5PM!

The PAL Assist Fee Subsidy Program fosters greater inclusion for special needs children throughout Ontario in community activities. Three to Be’s unique Fee Subsidy Program gives families access to the programs that best support their children and serve their specific needs.Through Fee Subsidy families can apply for a $250 grant to participate in therapeutic or recreational programs for their child diagnosed with a neurological disorder.

Too often most financial assistance programs have long waiting lists and are restricted by income caps. A good majority of families are not eligible for any government subsidies or private funding and most are unable to afford to have their special needs child participate in programs like summer camps, arts programs or emerging therapies.Private or group insurance does not provide reimbursements for programs that fall outside of traditional models. It is impossible to create a defined list of therapies or modes of intervention that will work for every child. The therapeutic program must be provided by a registered health professional.  Examples of previously approved programs include:

  • Various children’s summer camps
  • Conductive education
  • Therapeutic horseback riding
  • Art therapies and programs
  • Massage therapy
  • Physical and Occupational Therapy

A few things to remember when applying for funding:

  • Supporting documentation regarding the costs of the activity must be included with the application.
  • All completed applications will be reviewed and assessed for eligibility and acceptance. Please ensure you review and include ALL required documentation.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Applications will only be accepted via email and MUST be from the individual applying (applications completed by a service provider or therapist on behalf of a family will not be acknowledged.
  • Screenshots and/or photos of documents will not be accepted as complete applications and will not be reviewed under any circumstance.
  • Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

This program is made possible through funding support from Howie, Sacks and Henry LLP,  Noah’s Clubhouse and donors to Run, Walk, Wheel and Roll.  We thank them for their generosity and for their efforts to help us reduce social isolation, remove barriers and increase awareness of what our children CAN do, not their disabilities.

The opportunity for Give Me a Break is one where the outcome is a feeling of relief and refreshment for the recipient. It can take any number of forms, as long as it meets the self-defined need for relief. Three to Be understands the need for parents and families to experience a break and a chance to renew and re-energize.

This can mean dinner and a movie, a trip to the spa, a camping trip or an overnight stay in a hotel, etc. By giving them a choice to define their respite need, the outcome is exponentially greater. When they have the opportunity to better care for themselves, they are, in turn, better able to care for their children. Further, we also believe that families, together, need a respite break.

Having a child with a neurological disorder can be all-consuming and can inhibit a family’s ability to “just be a family.” It is difficult if not impossible for families to experience a typical family outing.

Learn more about Pathway Kits

Our Pathway Kits provide immediate support for families that cuts through the noise and intensity that a new diagnosis brings. They represent a pathway that is reassuring and encouraging.

Included in the kit is a care notebook for tracking pertinent information, a pen, gift card, a stuffed animal (for the child or a sibling), a colouring book for everyone and an inspirational book. We aim to provide an instant connection with a positive and nurturing community so that when the family is ready and the time is right, we are here for them, to help them on their journey.
